Concord University Center of Excellence for Veteran Student Success (CEVSS) provides a one-stop shop for student veterans and streamlines the various processes they require as they progress through college from application to graduation.

Concord University CEVSS seeks to assist service members’ needs by creating a safe environment for fellow veterans, providing a goal and productive direction, and connecting the veteran to needed services.

Funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, Concord University CEVSS seeks to:

  • Increase veteran enrollment;
  • Improve veteran academic success; and
  • Increase veteran post-graduation outcomes.
  • Early intervention system and protocol to identify veteran students struggling early in each semester and address their academic needs
  • Peer-to-peer veterans’ tutoring program
  • Veterans’ computer lab
  • Food pantry
  • Mentoring program (student-to-student and alumni-to-student)
  • Veteran Support Team to provide wrap-around services for CU student veterans to ensure they have the support to navigate any challenges that arise
  • Focuses solely on veteran students with the support of both the Veterans Advocate and School Certifying Official
  • Focuses on promoting a vibrant, veteran-friendly culture on campus and providing programming designed to increase student veterans’ sense of belonging on campus, coupled with mental health support to promote social, emotional, and mental well-being
  • Single point of contact for all veteran students
  1. Create a culture of trust & connectedness across the campus community to promote well-being & success for veterans
  2. Ensure consistent & sustained support from campus leadership
  3. Implement an early alert system for all veterans to receive academic, career, & financial advice before challenges become overwhelming
  4. Coordinate & centralize campus efforts for all veterans, together with the creation of a designated space for them (even if limited in size)
  5. Collaborate with local communities & organizations, including government agencies, to align & coordinate various services for veterans
  6. Utilize a uniform set of data tools to collect & track information on veterans, including demographics, retention, & degree completion
  7. Provide comprehensive professional development for faculty & staff on issues and challenges unique to veterans
  8. Develop systems that ensure the sustainability of effective practices for veterans
