What is SGA?

The Concord University Student Government Association (SGA) is an organization dedicated to representing student interests, opinions, and actions at Concord University. Our SGA is comprised of three branches: Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. Each branch has a unique role in establishing our organization as a true voice of the students, and each branch offers unique opportunities to students who wish to become more involved!

Meetings

The SGA Student Senate meets every Monday at 4 pm in the State Room on the main floor of the Jerry & Jean Beasley Student Center.  All students are welcome at SGA meetings and input is encouraged, but please remember that only Delegates and Organizational Representatives may vote.

Executive Branch

The Executive Branch is made up of nine individuals with at least one semester of experience in SGA. SGA’s Executive Branch works together to inspire policy, plan events, and collect student input in order to further campus initiatives and improve the student experience.  The Executive Board is a cohesive team that strives towards a common goal of upholding the mission of the SGA and being a powerful force for positive change on our campus. Each position is elected by the student body in the Spring, and you must have one semester of experience in SGA before applying.

Chairperson: Secretary – Lilly Palmer

This committee primarily focuses on internet-related issues on campus by working closely with the Office of Technology Services to exchange ideas, determine solutions and resolve problems.

Judicial Branch

The Judicial Branch, also known as the Student Conduct Branch, consists of the Student Conduct Steering Committee, the Student Conduct Supreme Hearing Board, and the Student Conduct Hearing Board. The purpose of the Student Conduct Branch of the SGA is to provide an efficient, responsive, and responsible structure that will enable students to receive a fair and impartial hearing in all proceedings concerning student behavior and discipline.

This committee is made up of the Chief Arbiter, Advisor to the Student Conduct Board, and a member of the Student Affairs Staff. This committee reviews all write-ups and decides if the case should be heard by the Student Conduct Hearing Board, which handles most cases, or the Faculty Hearing Board, which
handles more severe cases that could result in suspension or expulsion from the university.

This board is made up of Arbiters, the Chief Arbiter, the Judicial Liaison, the Student Conduct Officer, and the Student Advocate. This board hears most cases of student misconduct and has the authority to impose punishments to students who fail to follow Concord University policy. Arbiters act as judges in the case, the Student Conduct Officer acts as prosecutor and exorcises Concord University policy, and the Student Advocate provides a defense for accused students and has the best interest of the student in mind. The Judicial Liaison works with the Executive Branch to represent the Student Conduct Branch in the Student Senate and help create rules and regulations for SGA events and elections.

This board is made up of Arbiters and the Chief Arbiter. This board hears cases of SGA constitutional interpretation, acts as an Appellate Court for the Student Conduct Hearing Board, and serves as the Court in the Impeachment Process.
