Biography
Mark Dietrich is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Concord University.
After graduating from the United States Coast Guard Academy, he served as an active duty United States Coast Guard officer for 20 years, retiring as a Commander (O-5). He was stationed on six ships (commanding two of them), serving twelve years at sea, saving lives, interdicting cocaine smugglers, patrolling the Bering Sea in winter, and maintaining buoys and lighthouses in the Great Lakes. When stationed ashore, he served in various Information Technology management positions.
Upon retirement from the United States Coast Guard, he transitioned to a career in IT/tech at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), a U.S. Department of Energy weapons and research laboratory. There he served in four positions including Deputy Director of the IT Project Management Office at the National Ignition Facility, Director of Infrastructure, and founding Director of the IT Project Management Office.
After retiring from the U.S. Department of Energy, he pivoted to academia, teaching as an Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at Diablo Valley College and Las Positas College in the San Francisco Bay Area. He began at Concord University in 2021.
