CONCORD UNIVERSITY ENTERS AGREEMENT WITH LEVEL-UP PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
ATHENS, WV – Concord University and Monroe County Schools entered into an agreement for the Level-Up Program for high school juniors and seniors interested in pursuing degrees in Cybersecurity, Education, Nursing, or Social Work. Dr. Kendra Boggess, President of Concord University and Dr. Joetta Basile, Superintendent of Monroe County Schools signed the agreement on February 23rd following a brief presentation of the program to 9th, 10th, and 11th graders at James Monroe High School. The Level-Up Program enables juniors and seniors to complete two years of dual credit that satisfies high school graduation requirements as well as requirements toward a baccalaureate degree in the above-mentioned programs. The University coursework is tuition free for high school juniors and seniors.
Dr. Kathy Liptak, Concord’s Associate Provost, says of the program, “Concord University is looking forward to providing this program beginning fall 2024 that will provide up to two years of college credit free of charge to qualified WV students pursuing bachelor’s degrees in ‘high need’ areas including cybersecurity, education, nursing, and social work so that they can potentially enter the workforce two years earlier than is typical.”
The West Virginia Legislature appropriated funding for the Dual Enrollment Pathways Pilot Program (now referred to as Level-Up) in 2023.
This is the first Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Concord University and a county school system. Leaders at Concord are in discussions to sign additional MOUs with other high schools in surrounding areas.
