Graduate Human Resource Management Certificate Program

The online Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management aims to provide professionals in business the current knowledge and skills needed to maintain or advance in a career in the area of human resource management. This Graduate Certificate provides an additional skill set for professionals in the University’s regional area and beyond, providing continuing education possibilities as defined within the University’s mission.

The Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management includes study and discussion revolving around the integral issues in HR related to maintaining a productive workforce.  Topics of study include hiring, retention, satisfaction, and attrition, which are required for a functional human resources department in any industry.  HR professionals must have knowledge in key human resource areas including employment and labor law, employee training and development programs, reward systems, employee recruitment and selection, and assessment models.  In addition, leadership acumen and a willingness to embrace and apply current activities and trends in human resources are part of the overall certificate program.

The Graduate Certificate in Human Resources will require the completion of twelve (12) credit hours to be completed in one year.  All coursework is available 100% online.  A successful candidate must complete the program with an overall GPA of 3.00 or above.  Any course grade earned that is less than a C must be repeated.

The coursework required for the certification includes:

  • MBA 580, Leadership and Management* (3)
  • MBA 586, Trends and Futures in HR Management (3)
  • MBA 582, Strategic Human Resources I* (3)
  • MBA 584, Strategic Human Resources II** (3)

*Satisfies an MBA degree requirement.

To be considered for acceptance for the Graduation Certificate in Human Resource Management, applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree with a minimum 2.75 GPA from a regionally accredited institution.

To submit a completed application:

  • Provide official transcripts from all undergraduate institutions (with the exception of Concord University-these are already on file).
  • Provide a personal statement addressing the areas identified below.  Preparation of this material will help you reflect and better define your educational plans.  It will also allow us to know something about you and help us assess your potential and readiness for graduate education.  The personal statement should be double-spaced and a minimum of 1 ½ to 2 pages, and should address the following:
    • Describe your human resources professional philosophy, and
    • How would this graduate certificate enhance your professional goals?
  • Provide a current resume; AND
  • Complete the Application for Admission
