CONCORD UNIVERSITY PARTICIPATING IN COLLEGE BOUND SATURDAY
ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University is one of more than a dozen schools across the state hosting a College Bound Saturday event on June 12.
West Virginia students in the high school graduating classes of 2020 and 2021 can receive help navigating the college-planning process during this first-ever event.
At these free workshops, students can learn more about state and federal financial aid programs, as well as get direct help filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is the first step to unlocking funds for college.
Concord’s College Bound Saturday will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Center Study Lounge.
“West Virginia offers more than $100 million in state financial aid each year to help students and their families pay for college,” said Dr. Sarah Armstrong Tucker, West Virginia’s Chancellor for Higher Education. “Through our inaugural College Bound Saturday events, we want to help our state’s students learn more about how to access these funds and the programs that might be the best fit for them. The first phase is always filing the FAFSA, and we’ll be ready to help them complete that critical step – so they can stay on track for college in pursuit of their dreams.”
“Concord has long been committed to improving student access and completion for West Virginia students, and we understand that completing the FAFSA is a first crucial step in ensuring student success,” stated Dr. Sarah Beasley, Concord’s Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students. “Approximately 98 percent of our students receive financial aid, and Concord graduates have the lowest loan debt among all West Virginia institutions.”
Participants can pre-register and find more information – including a list of items to bring – at www.cfwvconnect.com/college-bound-saturday. Students who file the FAFSA during College Bound Saturday will be entered into a drawing and could win a free computer.
College Bound Saturday is coordinated by the College Foundation of West Virginia, which is an initiative of West Virginia’s Higher Education Policy Commission and Community and Technical College System. Additional event partners include The Education Alliance and WV TRiO, with funding through the National College Attainment Network (NCAN).
